Times Dispatch Photo

Look who made the local newspaper today (The Times Dispatch http://www.thetd.com/) Richard, Julie, and Laura Combs walked in the Rails to Trails dedication last Saturday. They are walking with Hoxie Mayor Donnie Roberts-- leading the way is Judy Turnbull, who has regularly visited @ Main Street.

In a related story, the newspaper reported on all the candidates filing for local office~ we have several from Main Street running for city council offices in November:

Walnut Ridge~ Daniel Abbott
Millard Allison
Paula Haskins (incumbent)
Hoxie~ Richard Combs
College City~ Helen Swindle, (incumbent)
Minturn~ Jason Tinker, (incumbent)
Portia~ Carl Herring

Did I miss anyone?

Look Who I Spotted Today

Most of you know I am teaching @ Crowley's Ridge Academy this year-- if you are on the blog from somewhere out of town, the website for the school is http://www.crowleysridgeacademy.com/ . It is a private K-12 school operated by the churches of Christ. We have a number of our children @ Main Street who are attending here this year. Because I teach in the elementary, these are the kids I spotted today. Not pictured are those in high school: Ashlyn Abbott, MacKenzie Hibbs, and Amber Wilkins.

Back to School Lock-In

Friday night, August 15 was our "Back-To-School Lock-In." We had more than 60 kids and teens present-- and about 75 in attendance all together. We had a great time together. A special thanks to all the adults who volunteereed. A special thanks to Carrie Colburn and James Henry who stayed with me the entire night.

We had a water gun game outside-- here Carrie is helping Beth with her mask

Basketball seemed to be the favorite activity-- we had several of the teen boys who played all night-- they didn't quit until 5am.

Water gun game

We had a game inside-- the teens had letters put on the bottom of their feet and they had to spell words-- it was hilarious.

Dodge ball

Another game-- we placed candy bars inside diapers-- microwaved them-- the kids had to guess which candy bar was inside--

I loved Lisa's response to the diaper

We played midnight glo bowling from 12:00am-2:00am at Campus Cove Bowling Center in Walnut Ridge. A BIG than-you to the staff there for staying open and accomodating our group.
