From the Preacher's Desk

Coach Bobby Bowden, football coach of Florida State University, tells this story about himself: He was playing college baseball, and he had never hit a home run. Finally he hit one down the right-field line, into the corner. He rounds first and looks to the third base coach. He turned at second, was halfway to third and the coach was still waving him on. He got to home, he hit the plate. He had his first home run, he was so excited and everybody was slapping him five. Then the pitcher took the ball, threw to the first baseman, and the umpire called him out. Coach Bowden learned this important less in his own words: “If you don’t take care of first base, it dozen’t matter what you do. If you don’t honor the Lord first, it doesn’t matter what else you do.”
Our society today teaches us a great fallacy: That money, beauty, intelligence, and athletic ability are things we "must have." We will often ignore the most important matters just to get these temporal ones. We must always remember to put GOD FIRST! The Apostle Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:19, " God shall supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." That means through Him we can find satisfaction and a meaningful life.
Bobby Bowden, With 372 career wins, is also currently ranked by the NCAA as the all-time winningest Division I-FBS coach by total victories knows what is truly important. He learned it at a young age and it was a lesson that stuck with him throughout his coaching career. Jesus said it best during His Sermon on the Mount:
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal, but lay up for yourself treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." (Matthew 6:19-21)
