From the Preacher's Desk

Christian Apathy

I am reading an interesting book right now entitled “Tools For Church Growth: Rise Up and Build” by Neal Pollard. Bro. Pollard preaches for the Bear Valley Church of Christ in Denver.

He writes, “Every member of the local church is either working for or against her growth. An unfaithful member may argue he is completely uninvolved, so he can’t be working against the growth of the church.” Bro. Pollard goes on to remind us that a “lukewarm” or “wayward” member is possibly the greatest deterrent to growth within a congregation.

Think about it, an openly immoral or rebellious Christian leaves no question as to his loyalty. The active godly Christian makes a clear impression who his first love is to. It is the inactive member who tends to hurt growth and development within a church.

What a wonderful thing it would be if EVERY Christian were an active and involved member. Are you addicted to the work of the church here? Get involved in the outreach programs, Bible studies, Life Groups, Prayer Group, Ladies Bible Study, etc. We should desire to be a cause and contributor to the growth of the church. Let’s keep our hands to the plow (Luke 9:62) and keep our eyes on the prize (2 Cor. 4:18) and remember that with Christ, the end of a thing is better than the beginning! (Eccl. 7:8)
