From The Preacher's Desk

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

The best-selling book Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff by Dr. Richard Carlson, encourages the reader to not treat everything that happens as a big deal. He writes, “Often we allow ourselves to get all worked up about things that, upon closer examination, aren’t really that big a deal. We focus on little problems and concerns and blow them way out of proportion. A stranger might cut in front of us in traffic. Rather than let it go, and go on with our day, we convince ourselves that we are justified with our anger. We play out an imaginary confrontation in our mind. Many of us might even tell someone else about the incident later on rather than simply let it go.”

There are so many “small stuff” moments that occur in our lives. We have to learn to not worry ourselves with the little things. We use up so much energy and lose touch with the beauty of life. In Proverbs we are reminded about worry, fretting, and being anxious about all of life’s “imperfections.”

Proverbs 14:29: “A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man displays folly.”
Proverbs 16:32: “Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city.”
Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Remember that above all, God wants to be in control of your life. And He who began a good work in you promises to bring it to fulfillment. So keep pursuing Him. And don't sweat the small stuff.
